Charles E. Evans (Charlie) has been married to his wife Kathie Evans for 56 years and they have 1 son, Allan-47, and 5 grandchildren.
He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at 14, but strayed off into a rebellious lifestyle in his late teens. Enlisted in the Marine Corps and continued down a modestly dark path. He found himself needing more and returned to Christ but there were some backsliding days after that. Through each of these seasons, God continued to watch over and protect him from any lasting earthly harm. As he yielded to serve God, He placed Charlie in a number of situations to serve in many capacities as His hands and feet.
Charlie enlisted in the Marine Corps directly out of High school in 1965. Served for 26 years, some in direct combat but mostly combat support and peacetime roles. He’s been a Gunnery Sergeant, Warrant Officer, First Lieutenant (Limited Duty Officer) and finally promoted to Captain. Shortly after his promotion to Captain, he was awarded an education waiver to attend Graduate school in preparation for further duties that the Marine Corps had planned for him. After he completed his Marine Corps career Charlie served as a systems engineering/test/integration and operations subject matter expert for a number of space-based National Intelligence programs.
He has served in other churches as Sunday School Director, Head Usher, and Deacon. Here at CCBC he has served as Chairman of Deacons, Trustee, Chair of Serve Team/SLT, Strategic Ministries Team and Chair of SMT.
Richard Brown (Rick) is married to Laura Brown, and Rick has 3 sons from his first marriage and Laura has 2 children. They have 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Rick gave his life to Jesus at 17 years of age. Several years later he led the church youth group. At age 28, he became the pastor of a small church in Montclair, CA for 1 year. From there he went to pastor another church in Ridgecrest, Ca, where he stayed for 3 years. From there, he became youth pastor at a church in Modesto, CA. Rick went through a rough period in his spiritual life and attended church irregularly for 18 years, until he met Laura and started attending regularly again. He found a community of believers who loved him back to reconciliation. He recommitted his life to Jesus and has been stable and growing in his faith for the past 25 years.
He finished high school in 1972 and didn’t attend college until many years later in 2002, where he received a BSBM (Business Mgt) degree. His primary purpose was to show his kids it’s never too late to get your degree. It also helped him promote in the company he worked for, and eventually retired from.
Rick has served at other churches as youth pastor, pastor, deacon, worship team, led small groups, and music leader. He served in a ministry called the Walk to Emmaus, where he held nearly all the board positions, including the Community Lay Director. Here at CCBC he has served on the Properties team, Strategic Leadership Team and in on our Worship Team. He is currently serving on the 1st Impressions Team, the Worship Team, and the Missions and Outreach Team. Additionally, Rick attends, and shares in the leadership of men’s multi-denominational Bible study groups, one on Tuesday mornings and another on Thursday mornings.
David M. Rief has been married to his wife Erin for 21 years. Together they have four daughters: Greenlee-19, Kohlman-15, Raylen-12, Wrenn-9. Erin has homeschooled all four girls, and they all serve in various ways at CCBC. The oldest one is attending Patrick Henry College and Kohlman is active in STOA, a Christian debate league.
He became a Christian at a young age as a result of an AWANA program. Twice in his life, as a middle schooler and later as a college student he decided to rebel and go his own way, but God was always there and brought him back. David strives to follow God, lead others to Him and do what is right. With each passing day, he becomes more confident that God allows our paths to cross one another’s for very specific reasons.
David earned a B.S.B.A. degree in Finance/Banking & Risk/Insurance at Appalachian State University as well as a J.D. & an M.A. in Government/Public Administration from Regent University.
David has done everything from selling auto parts, shoes, cars, insurance, and real estate to mowing yards and many other odd jobs. He currently serves as the Town Manager for Cedar Point. He previously worked as an attorney representing mostly local governments in eastern NC.
He’s been at CCBC for 18 years and has been a Deacon, a Small Group Leader, AWANA Commander, Director of Operation Inasmuch, Personnel Team Member, Discussion Leader-Financial Peace University, and been on two mission trips to Myanmar teaching children and adults. Currently he is a Life Group Leader, annually visits the Children’s Homes in Clyde and Kinston and participates in various Children’s Ministry Events throughout the year. Prior to attending CCBC, David sang in a youth choir, co-ran a bus route taking kids to church, and worked at a church owned youth camp during his summers. He loves watching others grow in their faith and understanding of God’s Word.
To Feed and Lead the Church.
The elder council is a group of biblically qualified men who are charged with leading the Church under the leadership of the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ. God raises up and selects men to be elders; the church recognizes God’s calling through the confirmation/affirmation process.
The purpose of the elder council, on behalf of the congregation, is to see to it that the church pursues its mission to “reach out, build up, and share the good news about Jesus” and to observe biblical standards in all we do.
